Dear Kindergarten Families,

First off a huge thank you to all the parents who stepped up to fill in spaces after Mrs. Gaffey's departure. We miss her! On a happy note we welcome Elizabeth Phelps to the Kindergarten classroom. Elizabeth is a graduate of SHCS and will soon be starting work on a credential. Elizabeth is a great asset to the classroom and we welcome her with open arms. The children love and respect her already. I will be posting the March calendar on the door. I appreciate all the time and talents you share.

The 100th Day of School was lots of good creative fun. The students had lots of experiences with the number 100. I think they most enjoyed eating their trail mix at the end of the day. Thanks also for all the creative collections. The entire school enjoyed them.

February Reading logs will be due back to the classroom on Friday, February 26th. You still have one week to enjoy some good stories together.

This past Wednesday we began the season of Lent. During Lent, and in preparation for Easter,I encourage the children to use these forty days to make themselves better people. In the classroom I will keep a binder with a separate sheet for each child. On each sheet there is a picture of a plant with many blank flowers and leaves. Each time I see your child in an act of prayerfulness, goodness, kindness or sympathy I will invite them to color in a petal or leaf on their page. I would ask that when you  see similar acts at home you would jot them down on a piece of paper and send them along with your child to school. I will read all the notes I receive each morning. By Easter I would hope that each child will have a beautifully colored picture and a spirit that has experienced some growth.

You have received information on a Sees candy fundraiser for Easter. This is a very important fund raiser that benefits every student in the school through student council activities. Please be as generous as possible.
Continue to be diligent about completing and returning homework. Habits learned in Kindergarten will serve your child through their entire school career.

On March 2 I will be away from the classroom attending a Math workshop with my daughter, Genevieve. When I look at her now with her own class of 30 I am amazed how time flies. Take time to take time! Read, play and enjoy each others' company. The years pass quickly.

March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day, will be the annual school Talent Show. If your child has any particular talents please let me know. We will certainly be performing as a group.

Thank you to Francine Rivas for our wonderful Valentine Party. Also a thank you to the Velasquez family for some yummy treats. We were spoiled!

Thank You for your attention to all these matters.

Sincerely,

Jean Williams
