Welcome to the 5th & 6th grade classroom.
As the second trimester comes to a close, our class is at the beginning of some very exciting curriculum.
Writing:
The class continues to work with persausive writing. Each student has already completed one five paragraph paper. As promised, the students will begin to work on their own commercial for another piece to add to their persausive writing experience. Our hope is to record and edit these commercials using the school's video camera and Mrs. DiFede's help.
Poetry writing is becoming a fast favorite in the classroom. The class has already created Biopoems, Name Poems, Cinquains, and I Am poems. They look forward to learning new techniques over the next few weeks to complete a poetry book of their own.
Social Studies:
The class is very excited to finally enter into Ancient Greece. We have some exciting activities that will take place throughout the unit. We will be creating paper mache vases as we learn about some of the arts of Ancient Greece. At the end of the unit, the hope is to have the class create individual Ancient Greece webpages.
Science:
The fifth graders have been invited to participate in the Napa County Science Fair. With this in mind, I have extended the idea to the 6th graders to participate in a 5th/6th grade classroom science fair. I will post more details as the class and I make some decisions on the idea.
We have entered into the space world in science. I have asked the class to create a 3D solar system model as part of the science unit. The project is due on April 12, 2010. Your child has the rubric for how the project will be graded. Please se me for any questions.
