Book Projects 2009-2010
BOOK PROJECTS
DIRECTIONS: As a class, we will select books at the public library at the beginning of each month. Each book you read should be a minimum of 100 pages, unless your book choice has been approved beforehand by Mrs. Wheelhouse. All book projects are presented orally in class. Along with the assignments listed for each month, your book project must be accompanied with the following information:
1. List the title of your book, underlined.
2. Name the author.
3. Write down the number of pages
4. Write a brief (3/4 to 1 page long) summary of the book, leaving out the ending.
5. Rate your book from 1 – 5.
6. Explain your rating.
SEPTEMBER: Read a novel or nonfiction book of your choice.
Prepare a poster advertising your book. The poster should be appealing to the eye and include information, which entices others to read your book.

OCTOBER: Read a mystery or a scary story.
Make a mobile, poster, or diorama to depict the plot of the book.

NOVEMBER: Read a biography or an autobiography.
- Make a collage collecting words and pictures, which relate to the person in your book.
- Make a frame for your collage. Around each side of the frame, list four sentences, which describe facts about your person or events in his/her life.

DECEMBER/JANUARY: There will be a Social Studies project during this time, so no book projects are assigned for these months.

FEBRUARY: Read a “How To” book. (This is a book that teaches you how to do something. It could be an art book, a magic book, a book on sports, etc.)
Teach the class one thing you learned to do.
DUE: Monday, March 1, 2010

MARCH: Read a book that is a Newberry Medal winner.
- Come to school dressed as one of the characters in your book (please bring uniform to change into later on)
- Tell the class about your life, speaking as the character in your book.
- Have notes for this section of your project.
